E-commerce is the commercial transactions over an electronic medium. 'E' stand for 'Electronic' and 'commerce' stands for 'trade and practices'. Trad is the activity of buying and selling and exchanging goods or services between people, firm organization and countries. In simple term e-commerce is the process of two or

more parties making business transactions via computer and some type of network. Basically, it is a system of electronics extensively used in commerce for the speed, convenience, wider, cheap and smooth functioning of business world. It is nothing but building web site. Here, people can select their desired commodities or services through the catalogue which is on the websites.

Thus, e-commerce is more than simply buying and selling goods electronically. It involves using network communication technology to engage range of activities up and down the value added chain, both within and outside the organization. It may be relating to products/ services or payment through telephone lines , networks or any other medium.

Objectives of e-commerce are to bring paradigm shift in business performance and to develop their competitive edge, to develop business relationship on strong footing, to find out and analyze market potential, to provide better service and delight to consumers.
